Welcome to Maiden Newton at War

Maiden Newton at War is the premier WW2 re-enactor event in Dorset. This second world war event just gets better and better, and it's not only the committee that think so. We have been overwhelmed with the sheer number of compliments and congratulations on a great event. We are very conscious of the fact that this is due to many factors, including the weather which was very kind to us in 2010. Many people have commented on the atmosphere and how good it was. This is due to the people that attended and the way that they embraced our event. We must thank the reenactors for putting on such a great show on the battle field and their static displays. The museum was absolutely terrific and the entertainers outstanding. We were all delighted with the number of visitors that dressed in 1940s fashion to attend Maiden Newton at War and the residents of Maiden Newton and Frome Vauchurch for dressing their houses WWII style with bunting, flags and taped up windows. The committee would also like to thank all of our volunteers that turned out to marshal the event, we couldn't do it without you. Thank you all very much. Why not take a look at our Gallery?

Our 2010 video will be available shortly
Here is a short intro to whet your apetite!

We are updating the rest of the Website
Please bear with us while we remove the old content and replace it with new. We hope to be adding new images and video from the 2010 event along with new features on the history of our community during WW2. Please get in touch if you have any pictures or stories of the Home Guard, The Auxiliary Unit, The ARP or the Fire Service of Maiden Newton. In fact we would be interested to see any information from the war years in Maiden Newton and Frome Vauchurch. Our Memories page has recently been updated.

Nissen Hut prior to being dismantledSTOP PRESS
MN@War gets its own nissen hut

MN@war have saved a Nissen Hut from destruction. The hut was to be demolished to make way for a new poly tunnel at a local farm. Some committee members volunteered to dismantle the hut and re-locate it. The owner agreed and we now have our own hut. We still need to find somewhere to erect it, but hope to be able to incorporate the new hut into this years event. We will be repairing some of the tin sheets and painting the hut before putting it on site. If anybody would like to donate funds or materials to this project please contact us. We need 3"x2" timber, bolts, hook bolts and Bitumastic paint if you can help.

Dorchester Carnival and Weymouth veterans parade
Maiden Newton at War 2010 with Armour and Embarkation proudly led Dorchester Carnival in 2010. A column of tanks and armour rumbled around the streets of Dorchester for the first time since WW2, what a spectacle, what a noise! We hope to be doing the same in 2012 and we are also going to be working closely with the Weymouth Veterans Parade which also takes place over our weekend. We have many exciting ideas and will release more details as they become confirmed.
