WE NEED YOU!
It is hoped that as well as being a great public attraction this event will also re-kindle the community spirit that prevailed during the war years. Any help, ideas or donations towards the big event would be greatly appreciated. Please
contact any Committee member for details.
Maybe you are wondering how you can help?
In order for this event to be a roaring success, the help, support and experience of our local residents is required. Help will be required for a whole range of activities, examples may include:
Bunting making and erecting.
Artists to produce 1940s themed art posters and signs, as well as modern day.
Home guard
People dressed in 1940s civilian fashion.
Help with building air raid shelters & repairing Nissen huts etc
The loan of 1940s/WWII memorabilia for display(E.g. utility style furniture, ration books, uniforms etc)
Get involved in the Memories project (see below)
Dress your House or Business during the weekend with bunting and taped up windows
Dig For Victory
It is hoped that part of the
Maiden Newton at War weekend, will be a 'DIG FOR VICTORY' garden at Greenford School complete with allotment and 'Anderson' air raid shelter.
This will not only give children the opportunity to learn how hard it was in times of war, but also to discover the pride and satisfaction of growing your own fruit and vegetables. This venture is being supported by the Maiden Newton Allotments Society.

The Memories Project
For Maiden Newton at War 2008 we started to collect the memories of people who have lived through the war. Not just the dramatic events which are usually recorded, but also their everyday memories.
We are continuing this for 2010. If you lived through the war years and would like to add your memories please contact us
here. If you were born after the war and know someone who would like to share their stories, please ask them to contact us that their memories can be recorded for future generations.
It is important as time marches on to gather memories before the generations who lived through the war pass away and their memories are lost forever.
The memories will be published on this Web site at at Greenford School, at the WWII weekend which will take place on 19th and 20th June 2010.
Memories of all types can be added, no matter if you were at home during the war, posted abroad with one of the services, helped in the home guard, were evacuated or in a reserved occupation. The list is endless. No matter how small please add your memories to the collection and help preserve the wartime spirit forever, in the hope that it will never happen again.
Any photographs depicting the 40s would also be most gratefully appreciated and of course will all be returned (if address supplied).
Memories and recollections can also be mailed to:
Andy Elliott, 11 Bull Lane, Maiden Newton, Dorchester, Dorset, DT2 0BQ. Or Emailed to:
Andy Elliott. If you would prefer to record your memories on audio tape please do so and forward it as mentioned above. If you include your address we will return your tape to you.
