It it hoped that as well as being a great public attraction this event will also re-kindle the community spirit that prevailed during the war years. Any help, ideas or donations towards the big event would be greatly appreciated. Please contact any Committee member for details.
Maybe you’re wondering…HOW CAN I HELP?
In order for this event to be a roaring success, the help, support,
and experience of our local residents is required.
Help will be required for a whole range of activities, examples may include:
Bunting making and erecting.
Fashion researchers and collectors and fashion models.
Catering (to include NAAFI style)
Artists to produce 1940s themed art posters and signs, as well as modern day.
Home guard
People dressed in 1940s civilian fashion.
Help with building air raid shelters & Nissen huts etc
The loan of 1940s/WWII memorabilia
(E.g. utility style furniture, ration books, gas masks, uniforms etc)
Dig for Victory It is hoped that part of the Maiden Newton at War weekend, will be a 'DIG FOR VICTORY' area at the village allotments and it would be great if as many allotment holders could participate as possible by simply opening up your allotments to visitors.
Also if any residents would like to open their garden in response to the 'DIG FOR VICTORY' event please contact John at Amber Hardware.
This will not only give children the opportunity to learn how hard it was in times of war, but also to learn about the pride and satisfaction of growing your own fruit and vegetables. It would also give the adults a chance to maybe learn a thing or two too.
If you are interested in opening your allotment or garden for this event, please complete a Dig for Victory form and forward it to John at Amber Hardware
